Beirut, Lebanon: Resilience & Mediterranean Glamour 27–29 March 2025
Beirut, often called the “Paris of the Middle East”, remains one of the most fascinating and resilient cities in the region despite the ongoing challenges.
Hotel Stay
I stayed at the beautiful Kempinski Summerland Hotel & Resort Beirut. The hotel was almost empty due to the current situation, but the staff provided outstanding service and made us feel truly welcome. It was the perfect luxurious base with great facilities.
City Impressions
Even though Lebanon is struggling economically and politically because of the war and crisis, the people of Beirut carry on with life in an impressive way. Restaurants were full, people were celebrating, and I saw plenty of expensive cars on the streets. The energy and defiance of the locals is remarkable.
Private Day Tour
I booked a full-day private driver directly from the hotel (he arrived in a luxurious Audi A8). It was the best decision and allowed me to see everything comfortably and safely in a short time:
- The cable car with stunning panoramic views over Beirut and the Mediterranean.
- Beautiful seaside restaurants and beach clubs that felt like Mykonos — stylish, vibrant, and right by the water.
- A performance of traditional national dance, which was a wonderful cultural highlight.
Final Thoughts
Beirut is a city of contrasts: beautiful architecture, Mediterranean charm, and warm people living life to the fullest, even in difficult times. While the country faces many challenges, the city still offers a unique and memorable experience.
Would I recommend Beirut? Yes — especially for travelers who want to experience the real spirit of Lebanon and enjoy great food, culture, and views. Go with a private driver/guide for comfort and safety, and stay at a good hotel like the Kempinski. Beirut surprised me in the best way.
