Egypt: Pyramids, Temples & Chaotic Energy Cairo & Luxor | 23–26 May 2025

Egypt is one of the world’s most iconic destinations, but it comes with a very distinct chaotic energy that you feel from the moment you arrive.

Impressions & Atmosphere

Egypt feels busy, lively, and quite chaotic. While I never experienced any real security issues, the pushy street sellers were everywhere and quite exhausting. In Luxor, a group of six young boys even made negative comments about my girlfriend, which was unpleasant. It’s part of the “low-cost holiday” vibe that dominates much of the tourist experience.

Cairo Highlights

In Cairo, I did the classic Pyramids tour. Seeing the three big pyramids and the Sphinx up close is impressive and absolutely worth it. These ancient monuments are massive and leave a strong impression — a true bucket-list moment.

Luxor Highlights

From Cairo I continued to Luxor for another full-day guided tour of the main archaeological sites. Luxor is incredible:

  • Ancient tombs with detailed writings and paintings on the walls
  • Massive temples with huge columns that feel like small cities from the past

It’s fascinating history and very photogenic — definitely something you should experience once in a lifetime.

Entertainment

For a fun evening, I did a Nile River dinner cruise with traditional dancers and entertainment. It was a nice break and made for some good memories (and videos).

Final Thoughts

Egypt delivers on the big historical highlights — the Pyramids and Luxor temples are world-class. However, the constant hassle from sellers and the overall chaotic low-cost tourism atmosphere made it tiring. I probably won’t return to Cairo or Luxor very soon.

Next time, I would rather explore the beach and sea areas like Hurghada (or similar Red Sea resorts), which I’ve heard offer a more relaxed side of Egypt.

Would I recommend Egypt? Yes — if you’re going primarily for the ancient wonders and can handle the hustle. Go with good guides, stay patient with the sellers, and focus on the history. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the monuments, but not the most relaxing destination in the region.
