Fiji: Tropical Hub & Resort Relaxation Nadi | 16–17 January 2025

Fiji served as the perfect gateway for my South Pacific island-hopping adventure. With only one night on the main island, I used it mainly as a convenient base to reach smaller destinations like Tonga and Vanuatu.

Arrival & Hotel

I flew into Nadi on the new A350 with Fiji Airlines in Business Class — a very comfortable flight. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was quick and easy.

I stayed at the Sofitel Fiji Resort, a large and modern resort right on the water. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by a local musician playing guitar — a nice traditional Fijian touch that immediately set a relaxed vacation mood.

Impressions

Fiji is very much resort-focused. Most tourists stay within the big resorts rather than exploring the city. My driver mentioned there are some bars in Nadi town, but the real experience happens inside the resorts with their beaches, pools, and facilities.

The resort itself was impressive — spacious, modern, and comfortable with beautiful grounds.

Final Thoughts

Fiji wasn’t quite as breathtaking as I had imagined, but it’s still a solid tropical destination with friendly people, nice beaches, and that classic South Pacific vibe. It’s not the most spectacular island in the region, but it works extremely well as a travel hub for exploring other Pacific nations.

Would I recommend Fiji? Yes — especially if you’re using it as a base for island-hopping (highly recommended for Tonga, Vanuatu, etc.). The resorts are comfortable, the welcome is warm, and it’s easy to reach. If you have more time, you can definitely enjoy a proper beach holiday here. I wouldn’t mind coming back for a longer resort stay in the future.
