Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto, Japan: A Food Paradise & Cultural Wonderland 26 October – 01 November 2024
Japan is one of the most special and addictive countries I’ve ever visited. In just one week I fell in love with the perfect mix of ultra-modern life, deep tradition, incredible food, and quirky culture. I already know I’ll be back every 1–2 years.
Tokyo Impressions
I started my trip in Tokyo. The airport alone was impressive — the sheer number and quality of restaurants right after landing set the tone for the whole journey.
Tokyo is a food paradise. I tried everything from an exclusive sushi restaurant (around 250 USD per person) with only 7 seats to fun conveyor-belt sushi spots where you order on a screen and the food arrives in just 2 minutes. Every meal felt like an experience.
Japan is full of contrasts and surprises:
- People are incredibly polite and service-oriented — staff are constantly running to help you.
- The fashion and street culture can be wonderfully weird and playful (lots of colorful, almost childish outfits).
- The level of cleanliness, efficiency, and attention to detail is unmatched.
One of the funniest memories was visiting a maid café where young girls dressed as cats served drinks, sang, and drew cute art on your plate — pure Japanese eccentricity and great fun.
Osaka & Kyoto
From Tokyo I took the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Osaka — fast, comfortable, and incredibly efficient. From Osaka it’s an easy day trip (or short stay) to Kyoto.
Each city has its own unique charm:
- Tokyo: Buzzing metropolis and food capital
- Osaka: Laid-back, foodie heaven with great street eats
- Kyoto: Traditional temples, beautiful streets, and historic atmosphere
Final Thoughts
Japan delivers on every level — world-class food, efficient transport, kind people, and endless quirky experiences. One week was enough to get a great taste, but far too short to see everything.
Would I recommend Japan? 100% yes! It’s a country you can return to again and again and still discover new things. The food alone is worth the trip. If you love culture, technology, history, and especially eating well, Japan should be high on your list.
Next time I’ll explore more cities like Hiroshima and beyond.
