Jordan: The Magnificent Petra 31 March – 02 April 2023
Jordan’s crown jewel and the main reason for my visit was the legendary Petra — one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Visiting Petra
I took a taxi to the entrance and decided to explore on my own (you can also hire a guide). The walk into the ancient city is quite long — plan around 3 hours total (1.5 hours one way), as you have to walk back as well. Along the way, locals offer donkeys and horses for hire if you get tired.
The site itself is absolutely breathtaking. Walking through the narrow Siq canyon and suddenly seeing the famous Treasury appear is a magical moment. The scale, the rock-carved architecture, and the history make Petra a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Final Thoughts
Even with only a short stay, Petra made the trip to Jordan completely worth it. The country has much more to offer, but this ancient wonder is the undisputed highlight.
Would I recommend Jordan / Petra? Yes — 100%! Petra is one of the most impressive historical sites I’ve ever seen. If you’re in the region, it’s a must-visit. Just wear good shoes and be prepared for a lot of walking. I would love to return one day to explore more of Jordan.
