Tbilisi, Georgia: Culinary Heaven in the Caucasus 24–27 April 2024
Tbilisi quickly won me over as one of the most enjoyable cities in the region. It perfectly balances beautiful historic architecture, a lively atmosphere, and an incredible food and wine scene that truly makes it a gastronomic paradise.
Food & Wine Experience
Georgia is legendary for its cuisine and ancient winemaking tradition, and Tbilisi delivers at every corner. The city is filled with excellent restaurants serving generous, flavorful Georgian dishes paired with outstanding local wines.
One of the highlights of my stay was a hands-on cooking class where I learned to prepare two iconic Georgian specialties:
- Khinkali — juicy, spiced meat dumplings
- Khachapuri — cheesy bread (the Adjarian version with the egg yolk on top is unforgettable)
The class was fun, delicious, and something I highly recommend.
Sulfur Baths
Another unique experience was visiting the famous Orbeliani Baths. These traditional sulfur baths act like a natural sauna and have been a Tbilisi institution for centuries. The warm mineral water, historic tiled interiors, and relaxing atmosphere made it a memorable highlight.
Final Thoughts
Tbilisi offers a charming mix of old-town beauty, lively streets, and warm Georgian hospitality. The food and wine scene alone make it worth the trip, while the sulfur baths and scenic views over the city add extra character.
Would I recommend Tbilisi? Yes — 100%! It’s one of my favorite cities in the Caucasus. Whether you’re into food, culture, history, or just want a vibrant yet relaxed destination, Tbilisi delivers. Four days was the perfect length to enjoy it without rushing. I would gladly return and explore more of Georgia’s wine regions and mountains next time.
