Cambodia: Ancient Wonders & Raw Beauty 26–29 January 2024
Cambodia is a country that leaves a strong impression — home to one of the most spectacular historical sites on the planet and still very much a raw, developing destination.
The Highlight: Angkor Wat
The absolute must-see in Cambodia is Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument. This ancient Khmer temple complex is simply breathtaking. The scale, the intricate carvings, and the mystical atmosphere at sunrise or sunset make it a true bucket-list experience.
Be prepared for many tourists — it is very popular, especially around the main temples. Still, it’s absolutely worth it and one of those places you have to visit at least once in your life.
Country Impressions
Outside of the Angkor area, Cambodia feels quite undeveloped. Infrastructure is basic in many places, but this also means there is still a lot of authentic nature and rural landscapes to discover. The countryside has a wild, green charm with rice fields, rivers, and traditional villages.
Final Thoughts
In just four days I got a powerful first taste of Cambodia. Angkor Wat alone makes the trip worthwhile, while the rest of the country offers a more adventurous, off-the-beaten-path feel with plenty of nature.
Would I recommend Cambodia? Yes — especially for the temples of Angkor. It’s a must-visit if you’re traveling in Southeast Asia (easy to combine with Laos, Vietnam, or Thailand). I will definitely come back one day to explore more of the countryside, beaches, and other temples. Cambodia has a special, resilient energy that stays with you.
