Real Fabian Hess

Dominica Nr. 133

Dominica
Date: 15–18 May 2026
Hotel: Sutton Place, Roseau (2 nights) and Serenity Lodge (last night near the airport)

Facts & Tips:
• Safety: Felt very safe everywhere I went.
• SIM Card: Used Airalo eSIM — worked fine.
• Cash or Card: Bring cash. Supermarkets and small places often prefer it.
• How many days? 3 nights / 4 days was good for me.
• Must try: Local chicken salad, Greek yoghurt + fresh fruit from the supermarket. Simple but fresh.
• Highlight Tour: Booked via GetYourGuide for CHF 60 — hot springs, waterfalls and flowers (very worth it).

I arrived on Friday 15 May. On Saturday I did the Dominica Highlight Tour with a guide — hot springs, beautiful flowers and waterfalls. It took 4–5 hours and was the best way to see the island.
Sunday morning I stayed in my room, made instant Nescafe and worked on my travel blog. The hotel café was closed because it was Sunday. At 9 AM I walked to the local supermarket, bought chicken salad, Greek yoghurt and mixed fruits for breakfast. They even asked for my ID to pay with card — apparently card theft is common here.
For my last night I moved to Serenity Lodge, a small family-run place (only 4–6 rooms) on a hill in the rainforest, 10 minutes from the airport. From there I visited the Kalinago cultural village, home of Dominica’s indigenous people. The 30-minute garden tour was okay but quite basic — no traditional dress, just a small restaurant and souvenir shop. Could be done much better.
On the way back I walked the steep hill to the lodge and burned 650 calories in one hour. Proper rainforest workout.
