Nouakchott
02.-04.10.2026
I arrived from Dakar, Senegal (just a 1 hour flight) to Nouakchott. The airport is quite new, modern looking. At arrival even i had an e-visa aproved, they wanted from me 50euro in cash for the visa! i didnt have enough cash, so i waited like 1.5 hours until finally a local arrived and paid for me the whole amount, cause there is NO ATM in the whole airport!!! I have never seen that. Luckily all went well, and i got a new Mauritanian friend who even did drive me to an ATM and my Hotel.
People are really friendly here! The next morning i booked a taxi (young man Sidi) which did drive me to the fish market (worth to see!, all the boats) and even walked with me there around.
After having lunch at my Hotel, i went for the dessert to the most fancy cafe (La Palmeraie) i could find by walking. The scene i could see on this 20 minutes walk along the street were just crazy. everywhere streetsellers or somebody sleeping or doing anything on the street, while in the desert sand and a lot trash was lieing around. All people looked at me. there was NO other tourist! compare to senegal/gambia, except 2-3 people, nobody talked to me, all just watched.
In the evening for diner i went to the Nr.1 ranked on tripadvisor fish restaurant: Tafarit. it was good, i can recommend it. pulpo as starter, water and main dish fish, was 1070.- local money.
