Yangon, Myanmar: Golden Temples & Rare Authenticity 25–26 January 2024

Myanmar felt like one of the most unique and undiscovered countries I have visited in Southeast Asia. With almost no tourists around, it has a very special, almost mysterious atmosphere.

Impressions

The country is still not very developed, so infrastructure is basic. Because of that, I strongly recommend booking a private tour guide — it makes navigating and seeing the highlights much easier and more enjoyable.

Highlights

I did a guided tour focused on the temples in and around Yangon. The temples here are absolutely stunning — grand, golden, and incredibly atmospheric. They have a spiritual depth and uniqueness that is hard to find elsewhere, especially without the usual crowds.

Final Thoughts

Yangon and Myanmar left a strong impression. The temples are world-class and the low number of tourists makes it feel like a truly authentic experience. However, due to the limited development, it’s not the most comfortable destination and I probably won’t return very soon.

Would I recommend Myanmar? Yes — but only for adventurous travelers who appreciate raw, off-the-beaten-path destinations and incredible religious architecture. If you want to see beautiful temples in a country that still feels undiscovered, Myanmar is very special right now. Just go with realistic expectations and a good guide.

A short but memorable visit to a unique country.
