Boracay, Philippines: Famous Beach Island 05–07 February 2024
After a short stopover in Manila (which I barely explored but definitely want to return to one day), I flew directly to the world-famous island of Boracay.
Arrival & Impressions
Boracay is a relatively small island, so after landing you still need to take a boat to reach the main beach areas. The island is very touristy — which is no surprise given its reputation for white sand and turquoise water. However, I found the overall environment quite basic and “cheap” in terms of infrastructure and many of the establishments around the main beaches.
It’s clearly built for mass tourism, with lots of bars, restaurants, and activities aimed at visitors. While the famous beaches are beautiful, the whole experience felt quite commercial and not as premium or special as I had hoped.
Final Thoughts
Boracay was okay for a quick beach break, but it didn’t wow me. The island delivers on the classic tropical postcard look, but the atmosphere and quality felt average compared to other island destinations I’ve visited (like the Maldives or Seychelles).
Would I recommend Boracay? It’s fine for a short, budget-friendly beach holiday if you want lively nightlife and White Beach vibes. However, next time I return to the Philippines, I will explore other islands and areas that are supposed to be more beautiful and less crowded. Boracay is worth seeing once, but it’s not a place I feel the need to rush back to.
