Tallinn, Estonia: Charming Medieval Gem 12–13 May 2024
Tallinn is one of those small European capitals that punches well above its weight. Estonia feels like a perfect mix of Nordic efficiency and Eastern European soul — with a distinct Finnish touch in the culture, design, and overall vibe.
City Impressions
Despite its small size, Tallinn is incredibly cute and photogenic. The highlight is undoubtedly the historic Old Town, a beautifully preserved medieval area with cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, ancient city walls, and impressive towers. Walking around feels like stepping into a fairy tale, especially in the soft spring light of May.
The city also has a modern side with excellent restaurants offering high-quality, contemporary food. From trendy cafés to innovative Nordic-influenced dishes, the dining scene was surprisingly good for such a small capital.
Final Thoughts
In just two days I got a great feeling for Tallinn and Estonia as a whole. It’s compact, safe, clean, and easy to explore on foot. The combination of rich history and a fresh, modern Scandinavian influence makes it very pleasant and relaxing.
Would I recommend Tallinn? Yes — absolutely! It’s perfect for a short city break or as part of a Baltic/Nordic trip. The Old Town is one of the best-preserved medieval centers in Europe and the overall atmosphere is charming without being overcrowded. I would happily return to explore more of Estonia, especially the nature and coastline.
A lovely, underrated gem in Northern Europe.
