Uzbekistan: Silk Road Wonders & Amazing Food Tashkent, Bukhara & Samarkand | 29 September – 04 October 2024
Uzbekistan completely exceeded my expectations. This Central Asian gem along the ancient Silk Road is packed with history, stunning architecture, and some of the best food I’ve had on my travels. It’s a country I would happily return to.
My Itinerary
I flew from Dubai directly to Samarkand, then took a comfortable train to Bukhara, and finally flew to Tashkent. Visiting all three cities is highly recommended — each has its own unique character and together they give you a great overview of Uzbekistan.
Impressions
Uzbekistan feels like a country on the rise. Tashkent, the capital, shows the most modern development, while Bukhara and Samarkand are living museums of Silk Road history with incredible mosques, madrasas, and ancient architecture.
The highlight for me was the food. Uzbekistan is the true home of plov (a delicious rice dish with meat, carrots, and spices), and I enjoyed it multiple times. The local cuisine is flavorful, generous, and very satisfying.
Highlights
- Samarkand: The majestic Registan Square and historic monuments.
- Bukhara: Beautiful old town with a magical atmosphere.
- Tashkent: A vibrant mix of Soviet-era history and modern life.
The country is still developing, but the people are warm and the destinations are very visitor-friendly.
Final Thoughts
Uzbekistan offers an incredible combination of rich history, impressive Islamic architecture, and outstanding Central Asian cuisine. Even though I didn’t note the exact hotel names at the time (I wasn’t writing reports after every trip back then), all stays were comfortable and well-located.
Would I recommend Uzbekistan? Yes — absolutely! It’s one of the most rewarding and underrated countries I’ve visited. The Silk Road cities are spectacular, the food is fantastic, and the whole experience feels authentic and special. If you love history, architecture, and great food, put Uzbekistan on your list. I will definitely come back one day to explore even more.
