Kathmandu, Nepal: Culture, Spirituality & Himalayan Charm 16–21 October 2024
Nepal is a country that captivates you despite its challenges. While it remains one of the poorer nations in the region, its incredible cultural and spiritual depth more than makes up for it. I would happily return anytime just to soak in more of the unique atmosphere.
Hotel Stay
I stayed at the Hilton Kathmandu, one of the newest and best hotels in the city. It offered a comfortable, modern base with good facilities after long days of exploring.
Impressions & Highlights
Kathmandu and the surrounding areas are incredibly rich in history, religion, and tradition. I joined a guided tour that took me to several beautiful monasteries, where I had the peaceful experience of sitting with monks during their prayers. The spiritual energy in these places is something special.
Other memorable moments included:
- Tasting delicious local momos (Nepali dumplings) — a must-try!
- Buying a traditional singing bowl, which I still use at home.
- Joining a local Muay Thai training session — the trainer was excellent, and I’m still in contact with him today.
- A relaxing yoga lesson with mountain views — one of the most scenic places I’ve ever practiced.
Nepal is one of the most photogenic destinations I’ve visited. The combination of ancient temples, colorful monasteries, dramatic mountain backdrops, and vibrant daily life resulted in hundreds of photos and videos.
Final Thoughts
Nepal offers a powerful mix of spirituality, culture, and nature. Even though the country faces economic difficulties, the warmth of the people and the depth of the experiences make it feel incredibly rewarding. Kathmandu served as a perfect base to explore this fascinating corner of the Himalayas.
Would I recommend Nepal? Yes — absolutely! If you’re interested in culture, temples, spiritual experiences, and authentic local life, Nepal is fantastic. It’s best visited with a good guide for the monasteries and activities. Come with an open mind, try the momos, and prepare to take a lot of pictures. I left feeling enriched and already thinking about my next trip.
