Bhutan Nr.99

Kingdom of Bhutan | 22–24 October 2024

Bhutan is truly one of the most special countries I have ever visited. A place where nature, spirituality, and tradition are deeply intertwined. Even with only three days, it left a lasting impression — I will definitely come back one day.

Travel Style & Practicalities

Bhutan has a very unique tourism model. At the time of my visit, independent travel was not allowed — you must book a guided tour (this may change in the future, but it was mandatory then). This means you often visit the same highlights, hotels, and restaurants as other travelers. However, the accommodations were clean, comfortable, and of good quality — nothing overly luxurious, but very well maintained.

Highlights

Bhutan’s greatest treasures are its breathtaking nature and the beautiful traditional architecture. The country is full of lush green valleys, dramatic mountains, and stunning dzongs (fortress-monasteries) that look like they belong in a fairytale.

The absolute highlight of my trip was the hike up to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang). Perched high on a cliffside, it’s an iconic and magical sight. The hike is quite challenging — it takes around 1 hour uphill — so make sure you eat a solid breakfast beforehand and take it at your own pace. Reaching the monastery and seeing the views is 100% worth the effort.

Final Thoughts

Bhutan feels like stepping into another world. The combination of pristine nature, deep Buddhist culture, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it incredibly special. It’s not a mass-tourism destination, and that’s exactly what makes it so refreshing.

Would I recommend Bhutan? Yes — absolutely! If you love nature, hiking, culture, and meaningful travel experiences, Bhutan should be high on your list. It’s best visited with an open mind and good walking shoes. Even a short 3–4 day trip is enough to get a strong taste of this unique Himalayan kingdom. I left feeling inspired and already thinking about my next visit.
