Saint Lucia Nr. 134

Saint Lucia
Date: 18–19 May 2026
Hotel: Harmony Suites, Rodney Bay

Facts & Tips:

•  Safety: Feels safe during the day, but like most Caribbean islands, I wouldn’t walk around alone at night.
SIM Card: Used Airalo eSIM — very easy and convenient.
Cash or Card: Bring cash! Taxis almost always want cash, while restaurants and hotels usually accept cards.
How many days? 1 night is enough. I did a scenic tour the next morning and that was plenty for me.
Must try: Traditional St. Lucian breakfast (fried fish, cucumber, and cocoa tea).

I landed at the tiny Castries Airport — just one luggage belt and immigration all in the same room. The taxi to Rodney Bay cost $30 and took about 25 minutes.

My hotel had the famous St. Lucian breakfast, which was actually really good — especially the fish and cocoa tea.

Right now in mid-May it’s low season, so hotel prices were very reasonable.

One thing I noticed is how big the Indian community is here. Because of that, you’ll find a lot of Indian food, like the excellent chicken roti I had. Unfortunately, just like in many other Caribbean islands, American fast food chains (KFC, Domino’s, Subway) are slowly pushing out the local food.

Scenic Drive to the Airport
On my last morning in Saint Lucia I started the day again with the excellent local breakfast — saltfish, cucumber, sweet bread, and cocoa tea. After that I walked down to the beach for some grounding before my taxi driver picked me up at 9 AM.
Instead of going directly to the airport, we took the scenic route along the west coast. The drive was beautiful but very windy with lots of curves. We drove through several small fishing villages like Anse La Raye and stopped at the famous Pitons viewpoint to see Gros Piton and Petit Piton.
I also made a quick stop in Soufrière town, which has very colorful buildings. Along the mountain roads there are many small shops and souvenir stalls where locals sell drinks and food — quite a lively atmosphere.
Overall it was a nice way to see a different side of Saint Lucia before flying out. The drive took around three hours including stops. While I expected a bit more wow moments, it was still a pleasant final tour of the island.
